Privacy Policy

Welcome, and thank you for trusting RTL Well-being. We know that the educators, students, and families who use our Lesson Checkpoint platform care deeply about how personal information is collected, used, and protected — and so do we. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, exactly what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

We are fully committed to student data privacy. Our platform exists to support educator and student well-being — never to sell data or serve advertising. If you ever have questions, we are easy to reach. See Section 12 for our contact details.

1.  Who This Policy Applies To

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the RTL Well-being website and the Lesson Checkpoint platform (together, the "Services"), including:

  • Educators (teachers, coaches, and support staff)
  • Administrators and institution representatives
  • Students accessing the platform under the direction of their school or educator
  • Parents and legal guardians of students under the age of 18

By accessing or using our Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Services and contact us — we are happy to help you find an alternative path forward.

2.  Information We Collect

2a.  Information You Provide to Us

When educators, administrators, or institutions create accounts or use the Services, we collect information provided directly, which may include:

  • First and last name, and email address (all account holders)
  • School or institution name and role (educators and administrators)
  • Billing or mailing address and phone number (institutions only)
  • Any communications you send us directly

When an educator creates or manages an account on behalf of a student, we store only the information provided by that adult — typically the student's name, school, and grade level.

2b.  Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, our Services collect certain technical information automatically when you visit, solely to operate and improve the platform. This may include:

  • IP address, browser type and language, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation patterns
  • Referring and exit URLs, and date and time of visits

We use this information only to provide and improve the Services — never for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose unrelated to the educational context. We do not track users across third-party websites.

2c.  Cookies and Local Storage

Our Services use cookies and browser local storage to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and help the platform function smoothly. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. You may configure your browser to warn you before accepting cookies or to decline them entirely; however, some features of the Services may not function properly without them.

Our platform is configured not to use cookies for student users except where expressly requested by a student's school district. In those cases, any data generated is governed by the district's own privacy policy.

2d.  Third-Party Sign-In

If you sign in using a third-party provider such as Google or Clever, you authorize RTL Well-being to collect and store — in accordance with this Privacy Policy — the information that provider shares with us through its interface, such as your name and email address. We do not receive or store your third-party password.

3.  Children's Privacy and Student Data

Protecting the privacy of children is one of our most important responsibilities. Student data is used solely to deliver the educational services requested — never for advertising, marketing, or any other commercial purpose.

3a.  COPPA Compliance

RTL Well-being is committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). Our platform is designed for use by educators and administrators with students — no student of any age should access the platform without the direction and guidance of an adult.

We collect personal information from students under the age of 13 only where:

  • We have provided the student's school, district, or educator with clear notice of our data practices;
  • The student's applicable institution has provided consent on the student's behalf;
  • The institution acknowledges that RTL Well-being acts as a "school official" under FERPA; and
  • The information is used solely within the educational context.

If we learn that a student under 13 has submitted personal information beyond what we request, we will delete it promptly. If you believe this has occurred, please contact us at admin@rtlwell-being.com.3b.  FERPA Compliance

RTL Well-being acknowledges that student education records are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA"). We access and use student information only as directed by, and in accordance with agreements made with, the applicable school or institution.

3c.  How Student Data Is Used

Student information is used and disclosed only:

  • To provide students and their schools or institutions with the requested Services; or
  • In de-identified, anonymized, and aggregated form to improve our platform.

We do not sell student data. We do not use student data to build profiles for advertising. Student performance and well-being data is accessible only to the student's assigned educator and authorized administrators within their institution.

3d.  Parental Rights

Parents and legal guardians may, at any time, request to access, review, correct, or delete their student's personal information, or decline any further collection or use of that information. These requests should be directed first to the student's school or institution, which manages account access on behalf of students. You are also welcome to contact us directly at admin@rtlwell-being.com.

4.  How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account and deliver the Services that have been requested
  • To respond to your questions, requests, and support inquiries
  • To send you important notices about the Services, including updates and billing information (institutions only)
  • To improve and develop the platform based on anonymized, aggregated usage data
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for targeted advertising. Any research we conduct on platform usage is compiled and analyzed in de-identified and aggregated form only.

5.  How We Share Your Information

5a.  Service Providers

To operate and improve the Services, we work with a limited number of trusted third-party service providers — including hosting, infrastructure, payment processing, and customer support providers. These providers may access your personal information only as needed to perform services on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations. We make every effort to ensure that student data is segregated and handled with the highest standard of care.

5b.  Legal Requirements

We may disclose personal information when required to do so by law, regulation, court order, or governmental request. Where permitted by applicable law and any agreement with your institution, we will endeavor to notify your school or institution prior to such disclosure.

5c.  Business Transfers

If RTL Well-being is acquired or substantially all of our assets are transferred to another entity, user information — including personal information — may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide reasonable advance notice to your school or applicable institution before any such transfer occurs.

5d.  Research Partners

We may share personal information with third-party researchers, subject to prior written approval from the applicable local education agency and a separate data sharing agreement entered into before any disclosure takes place.

5e.  What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your personal information or student data
  • We do not share data with advertisers or advertising networks
  • We do not disclose student data to third parties except as described in this policy and permitted by FERPA and COPPA

6.  Analytics and Tracking

We may use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to understand how educators and administrators use our site and to improve the overall experience. Our platform is configured not to apply analytics tracking to student users. Any analytics data collected from non-student users helps us understand site traffic patterns, improve navigation, and fix technical issues.

We do not track users across third-party websites to deliver targeted advertising. Our site does not respond to browser Do Not Track ("DNT") signals for non-student users, but student users are never tracked over time on our platform.

7.  How We Protect Your Information

RTL Well-being takes the security of your information seriously. We implement technical, administrative, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Encrypted data storage and transmission using industry-standard protocols (TLS 1.3)
  • Role-based access controls limiting access to only those with a legitimate need
  • Regular security reviews, vulnerability scans, and software updates
  • Trusted cloud infrastructure with SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification

While we work diligently to protect your information, no system is completely impenetrable. We encourage you to use strong, unique passwords and to contact us immediately at admin@rtlwell-being.com if you ever suspect unauthorized access to your account.

8.  How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information for as long as it is necessary to provide the Services or until you or your institution requests its deletion. Because we may not know if you have stopped using the platform, we encourage you to contact us or your institution directly if you are no longer using the Services and would like your information deleted.

Where required by applicable law, we may retain certain information for a longer period. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or de-identified in accordance with our data disposal procedures.
